Song-lyrics Sunday 1/15/12

After I read my current book I’m going to start working on my Middle Earth reading goal. I’m also starting reasearch and planning on my very first novel, which is both exciting and scary. Both of these projects will be detailed and time-consuming, and I will need a lot of guidance from God for the outcomes I hope to get. With that in mind, I’ve chosen a song this week that I find fitting - that I can apply to where I am heading. The video that I found on YouTube has the audio from a live performance, and only a picture to hold the screen. Since there is really nothing to look at on the video I’m going to post it first, with the lyrics after. So hit play, then read along.

“When God Dips His Pen Of Love In My Heart”
as performed by Alison Krauss and the Cox Family

When God dips His love in my heart

When God dips His pen of love in my heart
And He writes my soul a message He wants me to know
His spirit all divine fills a sinful soul of mine
When God dips His love in my heart

Well I said I wouldn’t tell it to a livin’ soul
How He brought salvation and He made me whole
But I found I couldn’t hide such a love as Jesus did impart
Well He made me laugh and He made me cry, set my sinful soul on fire
When God dips His love in my heart

Well sometimes though the way is dreary, dark and cold
And some unburdened sorrow keeps me from the goal
I go to God in prayer, I can always find Him there
To whisper sweet peace to my soul

Well I said I wouldn’t tell it to a livin’ soul
How He brought salvation and He made me whole
But I found I couldn’t hide such a love as Jesus did impart
Well He made me laugh and He made me cry, set my sinful soul on fire
When God dips His love in my heart

He walked up every step of Calvary’s rugged way
And gave His life completely to bring a better day
My life was steeped in sin but in love He took me in
His blood washed away every stain

Well I said I wouldn’t tell it to a livin’ soul
How He brought salvation and He made me whole
But I found I couldn’t hide such a love as Jesus did impart
Well He made me laugh and He made me cry, set my sinful soul on fire
When God dips His love in my heart

Song-lyrics Sunday 12/4/11

Today I’m posting my favorite song on the radio right now. Be sure to check out the vid at the end. I found it on YouTube… it has the lyrics as well.

At Your Name
by Phil Wickham

At Your name
The mountains shake and crumble
At Your name
The oceans roar and tumble
At Your name
Angels will bow
The earth will rejoice
Your people cry out

Chorus:
Lord of all the earth
We shout Your name, shout Your name
Filling up the skies
With endless praise, endless praise
Yahweh, Yahweh
We love to shout Your name, oh Lord

At Your name
The morning breaks in Glory
At Your name
Creation sings Your story
At Your name
Angels will bow
The earth will rejoice
Your people cry out

Chorus

Bridge:
There is no one like our God
We will praise you, praise you
There’s no one like our God
We will sing, we will sing
There is no one like our God
We will praise you, praise you
There’s no one like our God
We will sing, we will sing
There is no one like our God
We will praise you, praise you
Jesus, You are God
We will sing

Chorus (X2)

9/11 – 10 Years Later

I don’t think any American who is old enough to remember September 11, 2011 will ever forget that horrific morning. For this Song-lyrics Sunday post, I’ve decided to do something a bit different. First, I’d like to share the link to the website for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. Second, I’d like to ask that everyone pray for the families of those who were lost that day. Pray for our nation and our leaders. Pray that we would do what is pleasing to God and follow His Spirit.

Finally, I won’t be posting the actual lyrics today because I’ve decided to post three different songs that came out of the events of 9/11 and the events that followed. To post the lyrics as well would just be too long… and I think the words of these songs are understandable without having them written out.

There She Stands by Michael W. Smith

Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) by Alan Jackson

American Soldier by Toby Keith

Song-lyrics Sunday 8/21/11

Going back to rock today. When I first started Song-lyric Sunday Eowyn’s new album was due to be released, but I only had a video trailor for the album with music pieces. Today I’m posting my favorite song from the album, called “Fail-safe.” Be sure to check out the two videos at the end. One is the album version of the song, the other is a live performance of the song.

Fail-safe
By Eowyn

It’s still a mystery, am I really seen
Or just this portait on the wall
That’s left for ash and dust
Who can I now trust?
If not You, then I know this
I’ll lose my way

You’re my fail-safe, when nothing else felt safe
I’m losing control, don’t let me go
I’m letting You know, I need You more
You’re my fail-safe, security fail-safe
Cause You are the key to sanity
You are the hope to tragedy

With every breath I take
Relying on Your strength
I thank God I’m not alone
In truth, everything that You’ve said
Makes me so full of life not dead
Awakened by Your very words
There is much to say

You’re my fail-safe, when nothing else felt safe
I’m losing control, don’t let me go
I’m letting You know, I need you more
You’re my fail-safe, security fail-safe
Cause You are the key to sanity
You are the hope to tragedy

You always knew me better
You always knew me better

When I lost my way
Left without a trace
I’d return cause You knew me better

When I lost my way
Left without a trace
I’d return cause You knew me better

In every way

You’re my fail-safe, when nothing else felt safe
I’m losing control, don’t let me go
I’m letting You know, I need you more
You’re my fail-safe, security fail-safe
Cause You are the key to sanity
You are the hope to tragedy

You’re my fail-safe, when nothing else felt safe
I’m losing control, don’t let me go
I’m letting You know, I need you more
You’re my fail-safe, security fail-safe
Cause You are the key to sanity
You are the hope to tragedy

Song-lyrics Sunday 8/14/11

This past month I found out that two of my favorite bands have decided to call it quits: The David Crowder Band and Revive…. it’s very sad for me as I will miss their music (and in the case of Revive, the many tales of automobile troubles), but I wish them all the best and pray that God blesses them and their families in whatever may come next for them. Since my last Song-lyric Sunday just happened to be the DCB, I decided to put up a song from Revive’s final album “Blink.” DCB is working on their final album and will do one final tour, playing their final show in January 2012. Revive has already played their last show. Be sure to check out the vid at the end, which also has the lyrics.

We Were Meant to Be
by Revive

How’d we drift so far apart?
Oh God, it breaks our hearts
We can hear heaven’s tears cry out
For wasted years
The time for change is now
Can you hear us calling out?

We were meant to be
A city on a hill
Shine like the stars in the sky
We were meant to live
For more than this world
So open our eyes to see
What we were meant to be
What we were meant to be, oh

Even in the darkest place
We’ll stand, we’re not ashamed
When fear and doubt try to hold us down
We’ll stand, we’re not afraid
The time for change is now
We can hear you calling out

We were meant to be
A city on a hill
Shine like the stars in the sky
We were meant to live
For more than this world
So open our eyes to see
What we were meant to be
What we were meant to be, oh

Start a brush fire in my soul
A flame that won’t die, won’t grow cold
Let it burn, let it burn
Start a brush fire in my soul
A flame that won’t die, won’t grow cold
Let it burn for You

We were meant to be
A city on a hill
Shine like the stars in the sky
We were meant to live
For more than this world
So open our eyes to see

We were meant to be
A city on a hill
Shine like the stars in the sky
We were meant to live
For more than this world
So open our eyes to see, oh God
What we were meant to be, oh
What we were meant to be, oh
What we were meant to be, oh
What we were meant to be, oh

Song-lyrics Sunday 7/24/11

This week’s song is “How He Loves” by the David Crowder Band. After the lyrics there are two videos. The first is the official video for the single version. The second is a fanmade lyric vid of the album version.

He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all
He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all
He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking
And Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way

That He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

Song-lyrics Sunday 6/5/11

This week is one of my absolute favorites. Two music legends, Elvis and J.D. Sumner, singing “Why Me, Lord?” which was written by Kris Kristofferson. I think everyone knows Elvis, but if you’re not familiar with J.D. Sumner he is a well-known gospel bass singer. One of the lowest voices ever recorded. Be sure to check out the video to hear the song, and see some pics of the great friends, Elvis and J.D.

Why Me Lord?
What have I ever done
To deserve even one
Of the pleasures I’ve known
Tell me Lord
What did I ever do
To deserve loving you
And the kindness you’ve shown

Lord, Help Me Jesus
I’ve wasted it
So help me Jesus
I know what I am
Now that I know that
I needed you so
Help me Jesus
My soul’s in your hands

Try me Lord
If you think there’s a way
I can ever repay
All I’ve taken from you
Maybe Lord
I can show someone else
What I’ve been through myself
On my way back to you

Lord, Help Me Jesus
I’ve wasted it
So help me Jesus
I know what I am
Now that I know that
I needed you so
Help me Jesus
My soul’s in your hands

Jesus
My soul’s in your hands

Song-Lyrics Sunday 5/22/11

Every once-in-awhile a secular artist will put out a song that glorifies God. This is one of the best examples (make sure to check out the video for a live performance:

There Will Come a Day
by Faith Hill

It’s not easy trying to understand
How the world can be so cold, stealing the souls of man
Cloudy skies rain down on all your dreams
You wrestle with the fear and doubt
Sometimes it’s hard but you gotta believe

Chorus:
There’s a better place, where our Father waits
And every tear He’ll wipe away
The darkness will be gone, the weak shall be strong
Hold on to your faith
There will come a day, there will come a day

Wars are raging, lives are scattered
Innocence is lost, and hopes are shattered
The old are forgotten, the children are forsaken
In this world we’re living in
Is there anything sacred?

Chorus:
There’s a better place, where our Father waits
And every tear He’ll wipe away
The darkness will be gone, the weak shall be strong
Hold on to your faith
There will come a day, there will come a day

The song will ring out, down those golden streets
The voices of earth with the angels will sing
Every knee will bow, sin will have no trace
In the glory of His amazing grace
Every knee will bow, sin will have no trace
In the glory of His amazing grace
There will come a day, there will come a day
Oooh there will come a day
I know there’s coming a day, coming a day

Song-lyrics Sunday 5/15/11

I was listening to this song last week and thought it would be a great addition to Song-lyrics Sunday (don’t forget to check out the vid, which also has the lyrics):

Wrapped In Your Arms by Fireflight:

Is this the whole picture
Or is it just the start?
Is this the way You love me?
You’re capturing my heart
I used to try and walk alone
But I’ve begun to grow
And when You tell me just to rest
I’m finally letting go
I let go

And I’m here to stay
Nothing can separate us
And I know, I’m ok
You cradle me gently
Wrapped in Your arms…. I’m home

I’m seeing so much clearer
Looking through Your eyes
I could never find a safer place
Even if I tried
All the times I’ve needed You
You’ve never left my side
I’m clinging to Your every word
Don’t ever let me go
Don’t let go

And I’m here to stay
Nothing can separate us
And I know, I’m ok
You cradle me gently
Wrapped in Your arms…. I’m home
I’m home…
I’m wrapped in your arms.

And I’m here to stay
Nothing can separate us
And I know, I’m ok
You cradle me gently
Wrapped in Your arms
And I’m here to stay
Nothing can separate us
And I know, I’m ok
You cradle me gently
Wrapped in Your arms…. I’m home
I’m home

Song-lyrics Sunday 5/1/11

Today is also Holocaust Remembrance Day. So I decided to look for a song that covers not only the Christian faith, but the Jewish faith as well. I decided on Barlow Girl’s “Never Alone”. The song, which reads like a lament from the book of Psalms, is a cry to God when we feel like God has abandoned us. I can’t imagine anyone feeling that way more than the Jews did during the Holocaust. Some may have given up on God, but I’m sure many held onto their faith, and this is in remembrance of them.

I waited for You today
But You didn’t show
No no no
I needed You today
So where did You go?
You told me to call
Said You’d be there
And though I haven’t seen You
Are You still there?

[Chorus:]
I cried out with no reply
And I can’t feel You by my side
So I’ll hold tight to what I know
You’re here and I”m never alone

And though I cannot see You
And I can’t explain why
Such a deep, deep reassurance
You’ve placed in my life

We cannot separate
You’re part of me
And though You’re invisible
I’ll trust the unseen

[Chorus]

We cannot separate
You’re part of me
And though You’re invisible
I’ll trust the unseen

[Chorus]

Check out the acoustic version of the song, which I thought was more fitting:
