My Teaser

“This tree flooded me with a sensation of alarm all the way to my tingling fingers. My head began to feel unnaturally light, and the vague rustling sounds from the nearby woods came to me as though muffled and filtered.”

Musing Mondays 12/19/11

Hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading, this week’s musing asks… What’s one book you always recommend to just about anyone?

I have to break this up into fiction and non-fiction… believe me, it’s hard enough doing it this way. To pick just one altogether would be impossible.

For fiction, it would have to be Black by Ted Dekker. When I first read this I was already a fan of Ted Dekker having read three or four other books by him, but Black is the first of four novels in his Circle series. In my opinion it comes close to The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. This was the one that blew me out of the water and turned me into a true Dekkie.

For non-fiction, it’s definitely C. S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity. And yes, I do suggest this book to everyone, not just Christians. In this book Lewis explains what drew him, an atheist, to Christianity. He lays out the basic beliefs and explains them as he understands them and, in some instances, how he viewed them before. For a non-Christian, especially an atheist, this could be an interesting read. Maybe it could help them understand why people are drawn to Jesus. For the Christian reader, there is definite encouragement and edification in this book. I highly recommend it.
